Santa Maria Assunta basilica

According to the tradition, the Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta and San Giovanni Battista in Clusone, was built on the ruins of an ancient Roman temple dedicated to goddess Diana. The church was built between 1688 and 1698 following the project of Giovan Battista Quadrio, the same architect who designed the Milan Cathedral. It was consecrated on 6 July 1711 and in 1887 the new black marble flooring was added.

Curiosity: On 30 July 2010, the old wooden door was replaced with a bronze one made with a single casting technique. This amazing masterpiece it’s a work of Mario Toffetti and represents some episodes from the life of S. Giovanni Battista.
