Rifugio San Lucio – Pianone

A short hike starting from the Oratorio Montano San Lucio to the vast meadow known as the Pianone.

Trail Description

Near the Rifugio San Lucio is the Oratorio Montano San Lucio, built before 1529. Behind this little church, Path 508 starts out in the direction of Pizzo Formico. Take the trail that immediately enters the forest and, after a short ascent, walk along a wider dirt road for a few minutes. At the fork, keep to the right then a little further on, flank a fence with majestic walnut trees where there is a private mountain hut. A few metres from the mountain hut is a signpost with directions to the Capanna Ilaria and the Pianone. Exiting the forest, follow the small path that climbs to the left, shortly afterwards skirting the pylon of an old chairlift, where the large Pianone farmstead can be seen. Feel free to stop in the Pianone for a picnic or some rest. Or else, continue to Pizzo Formico or to the Baita delle Ortiche as you prefer.
